Blue Marsh Dam Tour

I love Field Trips and so does Pie Pie. Anything to get out of "regular school"!

Before we went on our trip we did a little studying about Dams. My girls and I learned all about Beaver Dams. Now I know that is not the same thing, but they are used in similar ways. The girls also got to make little clay beaver dams.

Pie Pie had to make a beaver too. He's having a snack of wood.

Our field trip was almost rained out, but we went anyway. It was definitely overcast and humid, but we still had fun!
We got to go inside the dam and see how everything worked.

Some of the gauges and controls the dam operators check daily.

What a beautiful view!

Lots and lots of steps to go down and then up!

After our tour we went and had lunch down by the lake. They had picnic tables and a playground. My girls decided to get wet in the swimming area. I am very sorry to the other Moms. They did not ask me, but by the time I found out they were already wet. I figured it was to late to yell at them. They were having too much fun anyway!

They also enjoyed digging in the sand.

It was a wonderful day with lots of good friends!
I love to see a Smile on my girls' faces!

Daniel Boone Homestead

We went on a Field Trip with Lighthouse Learning Christian Homeschool Co-op. We visited Daniel Boone's Homestead. The outside of the house has changed, as the family grew the house grew. The house's inside was set up just like it would've been when Daniel Boone had lived there. I thought it was neat that we had a chance to view a house from history.

A Bedroom

Pie Pie and her friend enjoying her favorite spot in the house.
It was a little ledge they could climb up and sit on.

This was my favorite room, the Spring house. You can't see it very well in the picture but there was an actual spring. I know what you're thinking, Obviously! But I thought it was pretty cool!

Pants and her friend checking out the sheep.

When the tour was finished we headed out to find a good spot for a picnic. Any spot would have been great if we had remembered bug spray. It was a beautiful weather day, it just seemed the bugs were heavily enjoying it too.

This was our view while we ate lunch.

When the kids were done eating they started figuring out ways to play with the water without actually being in the water.

Look what we caught!

It was a great day with even greater friends!
We are looking forward to the rest of our field trips this year!

Pie Pie and Pants indulged me with a picture of them together!

Top Chef: Doughnuts

I know you have been patiently waiting for this post. I have been patiently waiting for a chance to write this post! This night was a family event for Lighthouse Learning Christian Homeschool Co-op. It was also the Ultimate in Fun! All of the families worked hard to prepare projects and yummy food to share with all the other families!

We started our project by reading some books about Doughnuts and by having my Mom teach us how to make them. We used an old family recipe that my Mom made with her Grandmother! While my Mom and the girls were hard at work I took pictures of all the steps to make a little how to book for our presentation.

The end result. Yummy Doughnuts! This is the four most popular ways to eat them: plain, powdered sugar, sugar, and with table syrup.

We did three Doughnut book reports. We also had a taste test challenge. We went to four different places that make doughnuts. We bought and tried each one. Then we made some graphs. It added a little Math to our project!
When the day of Top Chef arrived it was back to the kitchen for us. We had to make a fresh batch of doughnuts!

It was a bit of a time crunch, but we go the doughnuts made and fried up. When we got to Top Chef you could feel the excitement as we set up our table! Check out the BIG doughnut! (We all ate it for breakfast the next morning.)

There was also some fun food competitions! The kids were split up into two teams and they each had to perform certain food tasks. Whichever team was the fastest won.
They had to peel a banana, cut it up and put it on a skewer,

They also had to peel an orange and cut up an apple and spread it with peanut butter. Each team member had to participate so it was quite funny to watch.

Then we had Make The Best Pancake Competition. There was some special ingredients they had to use  and pancake batter. I did not taste them, but they did look (kinda) tasty!

What do you think?

It was a very fun night for everyone involved. At the end of the evening all of the families were given a prize for participating. Thank you so much to Donna and Angela for all of their had work and for coming up with the idea for this super fun night!

The Doughnuts were a hit! We left with empty bags and the plan to make more Doughnuts very soon! I owe Donna a couple! Don't worry I will make you some!

Don't forget about our Smile a Thon going on right now, for more information check out this post.
My friend is also doing a giveaway at Broken Treasures. I know I have some scrap booking friends who would love this prize!
Tomorrow is my Giveaway!
I am not an early bird so look for it in the afternoon, it will be going on for a whole week so you will have lots of time to enter!
Who wants the worm anyway?!

Sew A Needle Pulling Thread and A Tisket A Tasket!

You're getting a two-fer here! We have been super busy lately, which is good because I will have something to write about! You have to actually do stuff to blog about it! This post is about Sessions 4 and 5 from the A'La Carte Sessions at our Homeschool Co-op. I missed the third session due to a little thing most people call the stomach bug. I prefer to call it the stomach monster, maybe evil creature or just plain nastiness! It definitely didn't just bug me!

Anyway, our fourth session was about Sewing!

Sewing isn't my thing, but we did our best and had fun! Pie Pie learned how to sew a button on. (The older kids used actual needles, buttons and fabric.)

She also learned how to do the running stitch. Pants had a good time coloring. The big kids had the opportunity to use a sewing machine too.

The fifth session was all about weaving.

The big kids made actual baskets and the little kids made paper baskets.
I think we had it a little easier!

The little kids had a chance to make some fun little creatures out of pipe cleaners and styrofoam balls. Here's Pants with her pink kitty.

Top Chef is coming!
I promise!

Here's a quick sneak peek!

Pie Pie's First Book Report

This is also a sneak peek at our Top Chef Project:
Donuts!
This book report along with a couple others will be a part of our finished project in March.

I want to make sure everyone can read what Pie Pie wrote so I'm going to type the summary and opinion out for you.
This book is about: a doughnut named Arnie. Arnie does not know that he is food. Mr. Bing tries to eat him. Instead of eating him they find something better for both of them.
I liked this book because in the end Arnie becomes a doughnut-dog. I like dogs.

We really enjoyed the illustrations in this book. The pictures were very funny and there was doughnuts all over the pages. This is a fun book that will be enjoyed by everyone!

More Doughnut Fun to Come!

P.S. I am linking up with Mouse Grows, Mouse Learns.

As Strawberry Shortcake would say,

"It's Berry Good!".

We learned all about strawberries for our second class this session at Lighthouse Leaning Co-op. My girls love strawberries. That is the one fruit I know they will both eat! We learned a little bit about the fruit. For example, the seeds are on the outside of the fruit instead of inside.  We also colored in a picture of a strawberry.

Then everyone got a chance to taste one strawberry, or two, or however many you could get your hands on!

Pie Pie was very generous and shared her treat with her Zhu Zhu Pets!

It was Berry, Berry Fun!

P.S. I'm just wondering do you prefer the new Strawberry Shortcake (featured at the top) or are you an old school Strawberry Shortcake fan (featured below)? I discovered an even newer one that is at the bottom too! I'm still thinking about which one is my favorite.
