It's Playtime!~Days 17-19

It's time for some more Playtime!



I finally feel like I got most of my brain back! The weather and plants growing outside clogged up my head and made me feel positively yucky. That doesn't mean my writing is going to be any better, but I know you love me anyway!

Day # 17

Play with Trash

Recycling is probably a better way to put it.

On this day we made tissue box houses. I saved some tissue boxes and we cut out doors and windows. Then the girls got to work decorating. The girls used stickers and made or put furniture inside the boxes.

Day # 18

Play with some more Trash!

(I skipped a couple of days in this challenge because I didn't want to do them or I thought they were something my girls would not be interested in doing.)

I came up with the idea to make rockets out of paper towel tubes. The girls decided they wanted to do this day's challenge with my nephew. We were watching him one day so we brought all the supplies over to his house. I helped Pants and him, while Pie Pie worked on her own. They came out pretty neat. The kids all had fun flying them around and driving cars through them.

Day # 19

Sticky Play

We decided to make Sticky Smileys! We ripped up some paper and glued all the pieces into a circle. Then we glued on the eyes and mouth. Pie Pie also added a nose.

I'm not sure why the first one didn't post right. Oh well, you can still see it.

It's Playtime! Days~13-16

We finally got some more Playtime in!

Day # 13

Paint Play

I found this fun craft on my friend Elizabeth's blog. We decided to try it too. You need some shaving cream and paint. She goes into more detail on her post if you are interested in the particulars. My girls loved getting messy.



 They pretended the paint was lollipops,

put some on their noses



and had a great time swirling up the paint!

I just want to give a little warning: this stains. We now have some swirly pink on our green towels. My girls did get a bit carried away though. The finished result beautifully decorated our home for Valentine's Day. We might make some more, they would work for just about any season or holiday. Just change the shapes and colors.



Day # 14

Party Play

We celebrated my niece's birthday party recently. I figured since they have a Wii and we have a Wii, we could all play together. I know I didn't actually plan the original party, but the Wii play was my idea. The kids had a great time racing and many of the adults joined in on the action.

I joined in later when we played Dance Party. I'm actually pretty good at that game, which is surprising considering how uncoordinated I am.



Day # 15 and # 16

Outdoor Play and Go On a Hunt

I cheated a little and combined two play challenges. I needed something to do with the kids outside and I'm not very creative. We decided to have an egg hunt outside. Since we don't have a yard we played at my in-laws' house. We also included my nephew. I'm sure some neighbors thought we were a little silly hunting eggs, but it was good practice for Easter. Leaves make very good hiding places. My girls had fun finding the eggs for them and then they helped my nephew find the rest.

Day #10

Mixing Concoctions

We went with the baking soda, food coloring and vinegar experiment. It's an oldie, but a goodie! The girls had fun stirring and adding the different ingredients. They said they were potions and managed to use up the whole bottle of vinegar!

Day # 11

Field Trip

For our Field Trip we visited Chuck E. Cheese. It was also a prize for Pants. She had earned a special prize so we decided to combine the two events. We all went as a family. The girls had fun playing games and I even got to play a little Skee Ball too!



Day # 12

Kitchen Play

Pants and I decided to bake some yummy bread while Pie Pie and Daddy were at a basketball game. Pants loved being involved and tasting all the ingredients. Everyone had a chance to enjoy some of the warm bread before bedtime.

Here's the recipe if you are interested.

Pumpkin Molasses Gingerbread

This recipe makes 2 9x5 loaves.

Ingredients:

3 cups of sugar ( I only used half of that amount.)

1 cup of vegetable oil

4 eggs

1/2 cup of molasses

1/4 cup of water

1 can ( 15 oz ) of pumpkin puree

2 tsp. of ground ginger

1 tsp. of ground allspice

1 tsp. of ground cinnamon

1 tsp. of ground cloves

3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

2 tsp. of baking soda

1 1/2 tsp. of salt

1/2 tsp. of baking powder

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Lightly grease pans.

3. Mix together sugar, oil and eggs, beat until smooth.

4. Add molasses, and water. Beat until well blended.

5. Stir in pumpkin, ginger, allspice, cinnamon and cloves.

6. In another bowl; combine flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder.

7. Add dry ingredients to pumpkin mixture and blend just until ingredients are mixed.

8. Divide batter between prepared pans.

9. Bake in a preheated oven about an hour.
10. Enjoy!

It's Playtime~Days 7-9

We are excited to share some more playtime with you! We actually did two of these in one day because we were having so much fun!

Day # 7

Mega Floor Doodles

I got some large pieces of cardboard out and covered them with paper. We got out our markers and had some fun drawing.

Pie Pie drew a Zhu Zhu Pet named Wharton.

I drew a house with a sun and a rainbow.

Pants helped me draw a snowman and then she drew an apple tree.

It was a little late in the day so they weren't feeling highly creative, but they did enjoy it.

Day # 8

Sensory Play

I decided to do the sense of smell for our sensory play. I picked out various spices, extracts, and seasonings.

For the extracts I put them on a q-tip. The dry I just put right in an envelope. The girls had to guess what they were just by smelling them.

 Unfortunately their sense of smell hasn't developed fully yet. I gave them some hints and then they could guess what it was.

Day # 8

Water Play

This one got a little messy. Food coloring + water play = stained hands. Don't worry food coloring eventually comes out! My girls got their swimsuits on. When you play with water you have to wear your suit! (That's what they said anyway!) I filled up a bucket and two small bins with water. They each got to color their own water with food coloring.

Pants got a little carried away and made a very dark black. We will definitely need to invest in some more food coloring for the next project that will need some!

They had a great time pouring and playing until the fun got a little out of hand and it was time to move onto something new!

It's Playtime~Days 4-6

A variety of things have kept us from doing this challenge daily. I knew this would happen, but we are still trying. We are going to finish eventually! I think I already said that though, so onto to the Play!

Day # 4

Block Building

We got out two sets of blocks and got to work.(or is it play?) I set up some block dominoes. Pants helped me.

They fell over before we finished.

Pie Pie found this very hilarious!



Pants made a beautiful town.

Pie Pie made a BIG tower, but she chose to keep it top secret. (No pictures allowed.) Sorry!

Day # 5

Family Time Activity

We played Apples to Apples first. This game did not work out too well. Daddy and I kept picking each other's cards. Not so much fun for the girls.

Then we moved onto UNO. The girls liked this game a little better. Pie Pie ended up winning!

I was game for one more game! The girls picked Candyland. Pie Pie beat us at this game too!

Day # 6

Play Islands

I wasn't so sure about this challenge. I didn't know if my girls would like it, but they did. We laid our pillows out and used some blankets too.

Pants and Pie Pie had fun jumping from island to island!

Pants decided that our blue blanket was water and went swimming.

Then she dove under the water to find some treasure.

Pie Pie spent most of her time on her own private island!
