Our Turkey Hill Experience

It seems as if I have been working on this post forever! I'm not even sure when I started it, but it is getting published today!
Daddy had an unexpected day off, so we decided to visit The Turkey Hill Experience. It was a great trip. I had promised the girls we would go and they were very excited!
When you get there you are invited to make your own ice cream flavors. We did the experience on their computers, but you can also visit their Taste Lab and actually make your own ice cream. Pie Pie made a very yummy flavor.

They even got to design the package for their ice cream.

Pants made one too! She had to put her favorite color in her ice cream. Pink! Which is actually a bit purple.

Here are the girls working on the computers to make their very own ice cream.

They are both definitely nuts!

Before you leave don't forget to get your free ice cream!
Pie Pie had Dutch Chocolate, Pants had Party Cake, Daddy had Peanut Butter Cup and I had Maple Walnut.
Yummy!

This was a very delicious Field Trip!

Memories From Gettysburg

At the end of our last school year we finished our study about the Civil War. I found out that this year was the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg. I thought it would be a great time to go for a visit. We purchased tickets to visit the Blue Grey Alliance reenactment of some of the battles. It was an interesting trip. We really enjoyed into the woods where they had a huge Union camp. It is much cooler in the shade. We never figured out where the Confederates were located, we didn't actually try that hard to find them.

Here are some of our memories from Gettysburg.

1. People from Texas have more fun! A man from Texas struck up a conversation with us on the bus while we were waiting to get to the parking lot to the battle area. They have much higher speed limits there, I did not know that.

2. Be careful where you go in the Union Camp to take pictures. Someone may be sleeping and blending in perfectly with his surroundings. Surprise!

3. The battlefield is very far away.

4. The people wearing the clothes from the Civil War time period are probably hotter than me.

5. If you cough too much there is a good chance you may throw up.

6. For the rest of Pants's life she will remember that "Gettysburg is freakin' Hot!". No, we really don't approve of that language, but it was funny at the time!

7. I have no need or desire to ever visit there again.

Overall, I am glad we went. We got to spend time together as a family and we all received a little more knowledge about that time in history.

This is post 198 in our countdown to 200!
Giveaways very soon!

Deep Roots Valley Farm Field Trip

For the second adventure of our little learning group, I thought it would be fun to visit a farm. Everyone loves animals and farms are always a fun time. It just so happens that my cousin and his family live on a farm and they invited us all to come and visit.

First we said, "Hi!" to some cows, while everyone arrived.

Then it was time to take a hayride. I love hayrides and made sure we could have one when we visited. It was a great, bumpy ride!

After the hayride we visited the rest of the animals. There was
Horses,

goats,

turkeys (yummy for Thanksgiving!),

and the Happy Hens!

We got to hear a little talk about how they raise their chickens. We also got to see the difference between their eggs and the ones you buy at the store. There is a big difference in taste as well as looks.

We got to feed the chickens and then it was time to feed ourselves.

We ate lunch by their pond. It was great weather for a picnic. The bees loved our lunch too! The kids had a great time running around and playing. The moms also got a chance to talk a bit too.

All of the families went home with a dozen, delicious eggs! We had ours for dinner.
If you would like to know more about Deep Roots Valley Farm please check out their website here.
We all want to say thank you for the hospitality of the Smith family in letting us take a trip to their farm!

Fifth Annual Smith - Edgar Corn Maze Day

It's hard to believe this is our fifth corn maze day. My Mom always plans a wonderful day for all of us. We start out the day at the corn maze. The kids had a wonderful time climbing on each other and a giant pumpkin.

Then we headed into the maze. The kids love to find the question signs that are supposed to help you through the maze

We made it out of the maze rather quickly this year. I don't know if we are getting better at the maze or if we were hungry!

Then we went back to my parents' house for the kids to decorate pumpkins. Stickers are my favorite for kids. They can do it all by themselves and no mess!

Then it was on to a yummy dinner of 'Sketti and Worms! There was also some meatballs!

For dessert we had Puddin' and Eyeballs!

Little blurry, but we were laughing!

We had a great time and lots of laughs!

Cleaning up the Frass!

You may think I misspelled a word in the title, spellchecker thinks I did! However, I did not! If you do know what that funny word in the title is, you are definitely smarter than I was last week! So, what is frass? Here's a hint!

It's caterpillar poop!
Why do they have silly names for animal poop? There's guano, road apples, chips, scat, dung and I'm sure there's more! We actually discussed this over dinner tonight! My girls thought it was very funny.
Now onto the real reason for this post!
We recently went on a super fun field trip to

I want to thank some of my homeschool friends for letting me know about this wonderful place. It was a bit of a drive, but well worth it. We got to watch a video about the life cycle of a butterfly and hear a nice talk all about butterflies. During the talk they have an audience member dress up like a butterfly which was a nice visual for my girls. Then you get to visit the butterflies in a Flutterarium.

It was very much like a fairyland. There were flowers and butterflies everywhere.

You could even hold the butterflies, if they let you. Some were more friendly than others!

The girls could have stayed here all day!

Anyone who know us, knows we don't go anywhere without a friend.

Don't forget about me! I love butterflies.

Since Pants and Pie Pie loved the butterflies so much we brought home some butterfly babies. Say "Hello" to Playful and Scaredy!

My girls are very literal with names. Playful is the one on Pant's finger and Scaredy is the one in the container. He tends to curl up in a ball when you pick him up. We are very excited to watch them grow, turn into a chrysalis and become butterflies.
Come back soon to see how our babies are doing!
